Tri-City Americans News Release
Kennewick, WA- A three goal third period for the Red Deer Rebels was the difference, as the Tri-City Americans (1-2-1-1) fell 5-3 in the final game of Day three of the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament.
Tri-City got on the board first as a rebound kicked to Brett Leason, firing the puck into the twine for a 1-0 lead. Late in the first, Red Deer evened the score as Reese Johnson scored on the power play to level the score at one going into the second period.
Early in the second, Red Deer took the lead on a goal from Colton Bobyk. Midway through the period, Tri-City knotted the score at two, as Juuso Valimaki lit the red lamp. The Americans had the shot advantage in the second, 13-7.
Red Deer came on strong in the beginning of the third, and was able to gain the edge again on a goal from Austin Pratt. Tri-City had some solid chances to even the score, including two chances with a 5-on-3 power play. But the Rebels squashed both chances and were able to score on the power play midway through the period from Ivan Nikolishin. Less than a minute later, the advantage increased to 5-2 on a breakaway goal from Presten Kopeck. With one second left in the third, Tyler Morrison fired a slap shot into the net on the power play, but it was too late as the Rebels earned the victory.
Tri-City spent 10 minutes in the penalty box and converted 1-of-7 power play opportunities. Red Deer was 2-of-5 with a man advantage and recorded 14 penalty minutes.
Beck Warm started in net and made 13 saves. Evan Sarthou came on in relief midway through the second and stopped 11 shots. Rylan Toth made 32 saves in the win for the Rebels.
The Americans are back in action tomorrow against the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:05 p.m. in the Toyota Center for the final day of the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament.
