Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

EDMONTON, ALTA. - The Edmonton Oil Kings have agreed to a WHL Standard Player Agreement with 16-year-old goaltender Liam Hughes, general manager Randy Hansch announced Saturday.

Hughes, a native of Kelowna, B.C., went 10-2 with a 2.08 and .930 save percentage in 12 games last season for the Yale Hockey Academy under-16 team.

The 6-1, 185-pound netminder was Edmonton's seventh round pick, 152nd overall in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft.

"Liam is a competitive goaltender who brings a high battle level to his game," Hansch said. "We're pleased he's ready to take the next step in his development."

Hughes will join the Oil Kings for a pair of preseason games this weekend against the Calgary Hitmen.
