Rebels Win 5-3 over Americans

KENNEWICK, WA - The Red Deer Rebels won 5-3 over the Tri-City Americans in pre-season WHL action on Friday.

The Rebels and the Americans were tied 1-1 after one period, the Rebels goal scored on the power play by Reese Johnson.

In the second period, the Rebels took a 2-1 lead when Colton Bobyk scored. The Americans were able to tie the game at 2 before the end of the second period.

The Rebels were able to restore the lead in the third, with a goal by Austin Pratt. Goals by Ivan Nikolishin and Presten Kopeck made it a 5-2 advantage; the Americans added a goal with 1 second left in the game to finalize the score at 5-3.

Rylan Toth went the distance in net for Red Deer making 32 saves; the Rebels had 29 shots on the Americans goal.

Red Deer was 2 for 5 on the power play and killed 6 of 7 shorthanded situations.

The Rebels will play Spokane on Saturday in Kennewick before heading back to Central Alberta.
