Your Red Deer Rebels put not one, but two in the win column over the weekend!
Friday, Sept. 25 - The Rebels celebrated a night of 'firsts' as they earned their first win of the season 4-3 on the road over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Beckett Hamilton, in his first game of the season after returning from camp with the Colorado Avalanche, scored his first career hat trick. Chase Turchak scored his first WHL goal. Nathan Salisbury earned his first WHL win in his first game. And head coach Brent Kisio earned his first win with the Rebels - against his former club. Poul Anderson had three assists on the night.
Saturday, Sept. 26 - The Rebels were more than ready for the challenge of taking on one of the country's top ranked teams for the first time this season as they shut down the Medicine Hat Tigers for a 3-1 win at the Marchant Crane Centrium. Beckett Hamilton was a big factor once again, setting up the game's opening goal by Patrick Sopiarz and scoring the game winner late in period three. Poul Andersen also scored for Red Deer, while Matthew Kondro made 28 saves for the win.
The Rebels sit fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 2-1-0-1 record for five points.
NEXT UP
This week sees the Rebels head east for their first road trip of the season. They visit the reigning Eastern Conference Champion Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday, September 30 for a 7 p.m. It's the first meeting since the Raiders eliminated the Rebels from last year's playoffs. The Rebels then visit the Saskatoon Blades on Friday, October 2 (7 p.m.), and the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, October 3 (6 p.m.).

On Monday, Rebels captain Beckett Hamilton was named Tempo WHL Player of the Week fuelled by Co-op. And why not after Hamilton posted his first career hat trick in his season debut Friday at Lethbridge, followed by a goal and assist Saturday vs. Medicine Hat. Hamilton's four goals are already second most in the WHL so far this season. All this after the Saskatoon, SK native scored a goal for the Colorado Avalanche in NHL Preseason play before returning to the Rebels.
