GAME ON!
The opening weekend of the 2026-27 WHL Regular Season is in the books. Your Red Deer Rebels looked good in two games versus archrivals but were felled by some stellar goaltending and tough luck along the way.
Friday, Sept.18 - The Rebels hit the ice at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary for the season opener versus the Hitmen. After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Rebels took over the game in period two and tied the game early in period three on goals from Cameron Kuzma and Kohen Lodge. The game eventually went to a shootout where Calgary claimed a 3-2 victory. Red Deer outshot Calgary 37-27.
Saturday, Sept. 19 - The Rebels looked good again in the Red Deer Advocate Home Opener at the Marchant Crane Centrium, but Edmonton goalie Ethan Simcoe stole the show in a 3-1 win for the Oil Kings. Red Deer heavily outshot Edmonton 23-6 in the first period and 42-26 overall but came up short. Kalder Varga scored Red Deer's lone goal on a first period snipe from the slot.
NEXT UP
Two more games versus Central Division this week for the Rebels as they visit the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday, Sept. 25 (7 p.m.) and host the Medicine Hat Tigers the following night, Saturday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Marchant Crane Centrium.

ALRIGHT, HAMILTON!
Rebels captain Beckett Hamilton is making the most of his training camp experience with the Colorado Avalanche. Hamilton scored a goal Sunday night in his first ever NHL preseason game, a 4-1 win for the Avalanche over the Utah Mammoth. The Avalanche selected Hamilton in round three of the 2026 NHL Draft in Buffalo, NY in July.

The Rebels 50/50 is online during all Rebels home games at rebels5050.com. Online sales start at 9:00 a.m. and close at 9:30 p.m. each time the Rebels play at the Marchant Crane Centrium. Winning numbers are posted to rebels5050.com after 10:00 p.m. and winners have four business days to claim their prize. Proceeds support the Rebels Foundation for Education and Wellness, and the Rotary Club of Red Deer.
