Red Claws Announce Trade and Training Camp Invitees

PORTLAND, Maine - October 31, 2014 - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, have completed a trade with Grand Rapids on the eve of the NBA D-League Draft.

The Red Claws acquired a third round pick in tomorrow's Draft in exchange for the rights to Daniel Orton and a sixth round draft pick.

Orton, a 6-10 forward, played in 24 games for Maine last season, averaging 11.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He started 11 games for the Red Claws.

Additionally, the Red Claws announce that Chris Babb, Sherwood Brown, and Jermaine Taylor have all been invited to training camp as Returning Players.

Babb played 33 games in Maine in 2013-14, averaging 12 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Assigned to the Red Claws as an Affiliate Player, Babb was called up to the Boston Celtics, signing a 10-day contract on Feb. 28. He eventually signed a multi-year deal with the Celtics, before getting waived in training camp this season.

Brown, a 6-4 guard, was a rookie last season out of Florida Gulf Coast University. He joined the Red Claws mid-season, playing in 30 games. He averaged 7.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

Taylor, a 6-5 guard, returns to Maine for a third time. He played in only two games last season, before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Taylor has played in 65 NBA games with both the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings.

The Maine Red Claws open the 2014-15 season on November 14 at Oklahoma City. The home opener for Maine's sixth season is Friday, November 21 vs. Canton. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at the Portland Expo. Tickets are on sale now.
