Bakersfield Jam News Release
BAKERSFIELD, October 31, 2014 - The Bakersfield Jam have acquired guard Elijah Millsap in a trade with the Los Angeles D-Fenders. The Jam will also receive the D-Fenders' original sixth round pick in tomorrow's NBA D-League Draft and their 2015 original fifth round pick. In return, Bakersfield will send the returning player rights of Dennis Horner to Los Angeles along with Bakersfield's two second round picks in tomorrow's Draft and their original 2015 second round pick.
"Elijah brings to the table another quality player and person in building our Jam team," said General Manager Bubba Burrage. "He is a Jam fit in several ways and we are very excited about having him here."
Millsap (6-6, 215, Alabama-Birmingham) has had four stints in the NBA D-League, three of them with the D-Fenders (2011-14) and one with the Tulsa 66ers (2010-11). He holds career averages of 17.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.7 steals in 136 games played (114 starts). Millsap led the D-Fenders in points per game and earned an NBA D-League All-Star selection and All-NBA D-League Second Team honors during the 2011-12 season in which Los Angeles reached the NBA D-League Finals. During his time with the 66ers, Millsap earned All-NBA D-League Rookie Second Team honors. Most recently, he was in training camp with the Milwaukee Bucks.
"I am looking forward to coaching Elijah," said Head Coach Nate Bjorkgren. "He has great qualities that he can bring to this team."
Millsap, a native of Grambling, Louisiana, played two seasons at Louisiana-Lafayette before transferring to Alabama-Birmingham for his junior season (2009-10). In his lone season with the Blazers, Millsap earned a 2010 All-Conference USA First Team Selection and averaged 16.1 points, 9.5 rebounds (1st in Conference-USA), 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals in 34 games.
