NOTES OF THE WEEK
1. Last week, the Royals completed a ï¬Âve game late-January road trip with three wins, beginning with a 7-2 win over the Evansville Icemen on Wednesday (January 28); then con nuing the trip with a 3-2 win over the Indy Fuel (January 30); and ï¬Ânally comple ng the roadie with a 5-1 win over Cincinna Cyclones on Saturday (January 31).
2. The Royals are currently riding a season-long seven game win streak (7-0-0-0) which began with a 4-3 shootout win in Elmira on Saturday, January 17.
3. Reading has won eight of the team's last nine games, eleven of the last fourteen, sixteen of the last twenty, and nineteen of the last twenty-four.
4. A>er Wednesday's win in Evansville, Reading jumped into second place in the East Division of the Eastern Conference of the ECHL for the ï¬Ârst me this season. The Royals remain in second in the East with a record of 28-13-1-1=58.
5. The Royals record currently stands at a season-high ï¬Â>een games over .500, which translates into a win percentage of .674.
6. Reading compiled a record of 11-3-0-0 during the month of January, marking the second most wins ever accumulated by the Roy- als in a single month in the fourteen year history of the team. Reading won twelve games (12-2-0-0) in November of 2012.
7. Reading swept all ï¬Âve games in the recently completed road trip to push the team's road win streak to six, which es the team season long set from December 17 through January 3. The longest road winning streak in team history stretched for nine games (November 26, 2005 through January 6, 2006).
8. This marks the ï¬Ârst me in the fourteen year history of the Royals that the team has won every game in a road trip that extended for ï¬Âve games or longer. The team has won six games during an extended road trip twice, going 6-1-0-1 in an eight game roadie in 2004-05 (12/18/04 - 01/04/05) and going 6-1-0-0 in a seven game extended stretch on the opponents' ice in 2005-06 (12/27/05 - 01/07/06) (which included winning six straight-ï¬Âve of which were on a con guous western stretch through Stockton, California, Long Beach, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada).
9. The Royals' road record to 16-5-1-0, which translates into a .750 win percentage. Only the Fort Wayne Komets (17-5-0-1) have more road victories that the Royals.
10. This week, the Royals return home for four games in ï¬Âve days, beginning with a matchup against the Wheeling Nailers on Wednesday (February 4) followed by three straight against the Florida Ever- blades on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
11. All three games last week were played against teams from the North Division. Reading has compiled a record of 17-7-0-0 against teams from the North with fourteen more games to go against teams from that Division, including this Wednesday's matchup against the Wheeling Nailers.
12. Reading completed the four-game season series against the Evansville Icemen with the 7-2 win at Ford Center on Wednesday.
The Royals won all four games (4-0-0-0) played against the Icemen this season-all of which were played in Evansville where Reading has compiled a historical record of 8-1-0-0 over the last three seasons in which the Icemen have played in the ECHL.
13. The Royals pushed the team's record against the Indy Fuel to 5-0-0-0 with Friday's 3-2 win. Three of the ï¬Âve games between Reading and Indy have been decided by one goal-and the other two games were decided by two goals (with an empty net goal serving as the second goal). The Royals and Fuel have three more games to be played in the eight game season series-one more in Indianapolis (March 27) and the ï¬Ânal two games of the regular season for both teams in Reading (April 11 and 12).
14. Reading won the ï¬Ârst match-up of the season with the Cincinna Cyclones on Saturday, 5-1. The Royals and Cyclones play two more mes-all at US Bank Arena in Cincinna -on February 11 and February 21.
15. Reading scored the ï¬Ârst goal of the game in the ï¬Ârst four consecu ve games played on this most recent ï¬Âve game road trip. That streak was snapped when Cin- cinna scored the game's ï¬Ârst goal on Saturday. Overall, Reading is 19-4-0-1 when scoring ï¬Ârst this season (and 10-3-0-0 when scoring ï¬Ârst on the road).
16. Saturday's win in Cincinna on Friday marked the Royals twel>h come-from- behind win of the season.
17. The Royals scored a season-best seven goals in Wednesday's win over Evansville. That marked the thirty-fourth me in team history that Reading has scored seven or more goals in a single games. The ï¬Âve goal margin of victory in Evansville on Wednesday was also a team season high.
18. In the third period of the three games played this week, Reading outscored the opponents by a collec ve total of 6-1. Reading is the only team in the ECHL to have scored sixty goals in the third period to this point in the season-and are playing to a league best plus-17 (+17) (60-43) in the third period of play.
19. The Royals have scored a total of 154 goals this season, which translates into a 3.58 goals per game-ï¬Â>h best in the league.
20. Reading held the Cincinna Cyclones to just one goal on Saturday, marking the eleventh me this year that the Royals have held the opposi on to one goal or less (11-0-0-0). In the other two games played this week, Reading held the opponent to two goals. The Royals are 18-0-0-0 when holding the opponent to two goals or less.
21. Overall, Reading has allowed 127 goals against, which translates into a 2.95 team goals against average (twel>h best in the league), marking the ï¬Ârst me this year that Reading's team GAA has been below 3.00.
22. Reading was outshot by the opposi on in two of the three games played this week (by Indy on Friday and by Cincinna on Satur- day); however, the Royals have compiled a record of 4-0-0-0 when being outshot on the road this season. Overall, Reading is s ll second in the league with respect to shots generated on average per game (33.02).
23. Reading's power play came through with at least one goal in two of the three games played this past week and have scored at least one power play goal in ten of the last thirteen games, going 16 for 56 with the man advantage during this span (28..6% scoring ra o).
24. Overall, the Royals are scoring power play goals at an 18.8% clip (36 ppg in 192 chances), which is tenth best in the league.
25. The Royals penalty killers blanked the opposi on's power play in two of the three games played this week and have only allowed two power play goals against in the last thirty-three chances with the man advantage for the opposi on over the last nine games.
Overall, Reading's PK has blanked the opposi on twenty-six mes this year and has compiled a record of 20-4-1-1 in those games.
26. Reading's PK is killing at an 83.3% clip (25 PPGA in 150 chances with the PP), which is eleventh best in the league.
27. Head Coach Larry Courville won his 250th game in his 439th game with the Royals on Wednesday in Evansville. Courville, who has a regular season record of 252-153-36 (.612), was then tossed out of a game for the ever ï¬Ârst me in his tenure with the Royals on Friday in Indy.
28. Pat Mullane, who has had three mul -point games in his last four played, racked up his ï¬Ârst three point game of the year on Saturday in Cincinna (0g- 3a). Mullane leads the Royals with 44 points (14g-44a) in forty-three games, which places him ed for seventh in the ECHL scoring race. Mullane, who leads the Royals with fourteen mul -point performances this season, recorded sev- enteen points (3g-14a) (and seven mul -point games) in the month of January.
29. Cam Reid, who leads the Royals with seventeen goals, recorded the Royals' ï¬Ârst haPrick of the year (and the thirty-sixth haPrick in team history ) on Wednesday in Evansville and followed that up with a two-goal game in Indianapolis on Friday. In both of those games, Reid scored the game winning goal and is currently second on the team with ï¬Âve GWGs. Reid, who had six mul -point performances in the four- teen games played in January (6g-8a), has eleven mul -point games this season.
30. Although Olivier Labelle had his three game point streak (2g-4a=6pts) snapped on Saturday in Cincinna, he s ll recorded four- teen points (7g-7a) in the fourteen games played in January. Labelle, who is the all- me career goal scoring leader for the Royals with 87, will become the second player in team history to play in 200 games with the team in his next game with the Royals. Labelle is currently third on the all- me scoring list with 167 points (87g-80a), which is twelve points behind Yannick Tifu (66g-113a in 184 games), who is the team's second all- me leading scorer.
31. Adam Hughesman had his three game point streak (2g-3a=5pts) snapped in Cincinna on Saturday. Hughesman, who engaged in his second ï¬Âght of the season when he and Kevin Harvey went at it with just 11 seconds remaining in Wednesday's game in Evans- ville, registered eleven points (5g-6a) in eleven games with the Royals in January. Hughesman, who leads the Royals with 116 shots on goal, has registered ten mul -point games this year.
32. Ryan Cruthers, who has had at least one point in three of the last four games, recorded his ï¬Â>h mul -point game of the year on Saturday in Cincinna (0g-2a). One of Cruthers' assists on Saturday was on the power play goal scored by Sean Wiles, which was Cruthers' thirteenth power play assist of the season, which is third most in the league. Cruthers, whose fourteen power play points (1g-13a) leads the Royals, had at least one point in ten of the fourteen games played in January (2g-10a). Cruthers is the all- me leading scorer for the Royals with 256 points (80g-176a) in 254 games with the Royals.
33. David Marshall returned to the Royals' lineup from the AHL on Saturday in Cincinna (for the ï¬Ârst me since January 9) and scored a cri cal mid-third period insurance goal in Reading's 5-1 win. Marshall has had at least one point in four of his last ï¬Âve games with the Royals (3g-2a) and has had a point in nine of his last eleven games with the team (4g-7a=11pts).
34. Defenseman Mike Marcou picked up his eleventh power play assist of the season (which is ed for the league lead amongst de- fenseman) in Saturday's win in Cincinna . Overall, Marcou has twenty-six points on the season, which is ed for twel>h in de- fenseman scoring.
35. Sean Wiles recorded his second mul -point game of the season-both of which have come in the last nine games-on Saturday in Cincinna . Both of his goals in that game were scored while the team was on the power play, and he now has ï¬Âve PPGs, which is ed with Pat Mullane (and Adam Comrie) for the team lead. Wiles has eight goals in his last thirteen games.
36. Zach Davies, who is riding a three game point streak (1g-2a), broke a nineteen game goal scoring drought when he scored the ï¬Ârst goal of the game in Reading's 3-2 win in Indianapolis on Friday. Davies' twenty-three points (4g-19a) is ed for twen eth in league defenseman scoring.
37. Defenseman Maxim Lamarche is riding a seven game point streak (2g-7a-9pts). On Saturday (1g-1a), he recorded his third mul - point game in that seven me span, and his goal against Cincinna on Saturday proved to be the game winner. )He is the tenth diï¬â¬erent player to score a game winning goal for the Royals this season.) Lamarche, who played to a collec ve plus-ï¬Âve (+5) in the three games played this past week, leads the team in plus-minus at plus-17 (+17).
38. Ian WaPers scored his third goal in a span of eleven games (and fourth on the season) in Cincinna on Saturday to give Reading a 5-1 lead. WaPers leads all forwards on the team in plus-minus at plus-12 (+12). He played to a collec ve plus-8 (+8) in fourteen games in the month of January.
39. Defenseman Jordan Heywood put together a three game point streak (1g-5a=6pts), star ng in GwinneP last Sunday and con nu- ing through Friday in Indianapolis, in which he had three straight two-point games. On Wednesday in Evansville, he assisted on the Royals' second goal and scored the team's seventh; and on Friday in Indianapolis, he assisted on the team's ï¬Ârst two goals of the game.
40. Andrew Johnston recorded his second mul -point game of the year (1g-1a) in the 7-2 win over Evansville on Wednesday. In that game, he scored the game's ï¬Ârst goal, marking the second me this season that he's bagged the 'fg' for the Royals (his other ï¬Ârst goal came in the 6-2 win over Brampton on January 11).
41. Defenseman Michael Caruso registered an assist on the Royals' ï¬Ârst goal in the 7-2 win over Evansville on Wednesday, as well as picking up an assist on the game winner by Cam Reid in Indianapolis on Friday. Caruso has played to a collec ve plus-15 (+15) in his last twenty-six games with the Royals.
42. MaP Hatch, who recorded the primary assist on the game winning goal by Maxim Lamarche on Saturday in Cincinna, has seven points (5g-2a) in his last eleven games. Hatch played to a collec ve plus-ï¬Âve (+5) in fourteen games in January.
43. Defenseman Bryant Molle, who played plus-ï¬Âve (+5) in the month of January, was one of twelve diï¬â¬erent Royals to record at least one point in the team's 7-2 win in Evansville on Wednesday.
44. Forward Kevin Walrod played to a plus-ï¬Âve (+5) in twelve games in the month of January.
45. Goaltender Connor Knapp stretched his personal win streak to a season-long ï¬Âve games with a pair of victories in Evansville and Indianapolis this week. Knapp, who has won nine of his last eleven games, leads the Royals goaltenders with fourteen wins (14-7-0- 0) and has pushed his personal goals against average to a season-low 2.93 and his save percentage to a season best .903.
46. Goaltender Mar n OuellePe returned from his third s nt in the AHL to the Royals' net for his ï¬Ârst game with the team since Jan- uary 11 with a thirty-save 5-1 win over Cincinna on Saturday. For OuellePe, who has won eight of his last ten games with the team (and is 10-2-1-1 in his last fourteen), he has held the opposi on to one goal or less seven mes this year. Overall, OuellePe has com- piled a record of 12-6-1-1 with a 2.75 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
