The Week That Was

---January 29th- ALLEN AMERICANS 6, RAPID CITY RUSH 2

(ALN-6 unanswered goals, 4 in 2nd Per; RC:J. Schultz-2 Ast; new all-time leading scorer in Rush history)

Kale Kerbashian put the Rush on the board on his first shift and first shot with his new team within the first 2 minutes of the game, but the Americans stormed back in the 2nd with 4 of their 6 unanswered goals, eventually winning 6-2. Despite the loss, Jesse Schultz recorded 2 assists, becoming the new all-time leading scorer in Rapid City Rush history with 238 points in a Rush uniform.

---January 30th- RAPID CITY RUSH 6, ALLEN AMERICANS 3

(RC: J. Schultz-1st hat-trick of season; J. Howe-win in first Rush start)

After a scoreless 1st period, Allen picked up where they left off and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but a five-on-three power play goal from Mathieu Brisebois followed by a Danny Tetrault tally tied things up at 2-2 heading into the 3rd. Jesse Schultz piled onto his stellar weekend with his first hat-trick of the season, sealing an eventual 6-3 with an empty-netter with 20.4 seconds left in the game.

Notes and Numbers

HE DID IT! - With a five-point weekend under his belt, Jesse Schultz became the new all-time leading scorer in Rapid City Rush history. Schultz came into the weekend tied with long-time Rush Captain, Scott Wray, and needed only one point to set the new scoring mark. His assist on Kale Kerbashian's first goal in a Rush uniform ultimately allowed his to set Rush history, and with all being said and done from his five-point weekend, Schultz now has 241 points in 205 games in a Rush uniform.

Kerby's Dreamland - On his first shot in his first shift with his new club, Kale Kerbashian became another player added to the list of new Rush players that have made an immediate impact on the ice. In total, Kerbashian dominated against his former club in the Americans this past weekend, recording a goal with 2 assists for 3 points and a +2 rating.

Dramatic Finish - Jesse Schultz makes this section twice because he also scored the second hat-trick of the season for the Rush in Friday's 6-3 win over the Americans. Schultz completed his hat-trick with the second empty-net goal of the game, coming with 20.4 seconds remaining in regulation. Both Rush hat-tricks scored this season (Schultz last Friday, Cody Ferriero on 1/4 @ Tulsa) have been completed within the last 30 seconds of regulation, with Ferriero's still remaining the latest completed hat-trick, as his was finished with 16 seconds left in the game.

Record Watch - Now three players are in position to re-write the history books in the Rush organization this season:

- Riley Weselowski - 12 games played away from Scott Wray's franchise record of 314

- J.P. Chabot - 6 power play goals away from Chris Lipsett's single-season franchise record of 12 power play goals in a season (a record that has held since the inaugural 2008-09 season)

- Danny Battochio - 1 shutout away from sole possession of the single-season franchise record for shutouts with 3 (he already earned a share of this record back in the 2010-11 season)

CRUNCHING NUMBERS - Last Week vs the Americans:

- 4 - the number of 2nd period goals allowed in Thursday night's 6-2 Rush loss. 4 goals in a period ties a season high only met a handful of other times this season, but this is only the second time the Rush have done so when first holding onto a lead. The Americans accomplished this feat on 24 shots in the 2nd period, marking a new franchise record for shots allowed in a single frame.

- 5 - the number of Rush players recording multi-point efforts on Friday night. 24 hours after a 6-2 defeat, the Rush rallied around each other and worked towards a very hard-earned split of the weekend series against the Americans. Leading the way on the scoresheet was Jesse Schultz with his hat-trick, followed by Mathieu Brisebois, Kale Kerbashian, and Danny Tetrault (G, Ast each), with Sean Erickson rounding out multi-point scorers with 2 Ast to his name.
