South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Estero, FL Cail MacLean and Evan Schwabe each had two goals as the Stingrays blasted the Florida Everblades 6-3 at Germain Arena. The Rays finish the season 3-1-1 in Florida and improved to 23-20-11 overall.
"I was proud of the way we outworked the Everblades tonight," commented Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "Florida really took it to us last night and I was pleased with the way we came out and answered the bell."
The Stingrays caught the Everblades with three first period goals to open up a 3-0 lead. Craig Olynick, Evan Schwabe and Trevor Johnson all scored tallies with the latter two goals coming on the power play. Olynick opened the scoring with his tenth goal of the season with a slap shot from the slot after Jeff Legue beat the Everblades defense to the puck. Schwabe took a rebound off the pad of Phil Osaer for his 17th of the season at 9:19 of the first with the Rays on the man advantage. The Rays closed out the first period scoring when Trevor Johnson potted a power play rebound after Nate Kiser found the net at 16:57.
In the second period, Phil Aucoin got the Blades on the board, but Cail Maclean and Likit Andersson scored late goals to put the game out of reach.
Maclean and Schwabe would each score third period goals with Maclean netting his tenth of the season and Schwabe grabbing his 18th. Florida answered with goals by Paul Cabanna and John Ronan.
Davis Parley earned his 12th win of the season by making 32 saves on 35 shots. The Rays pulled to within two points of the Charlotte Checkers for fourth place with the win.
Notes: Robin Gomez, Ryan Finnerty and Marty Clapton watched last night's action from the stands. Gomez was suspended two games by the ECHL on Monday for his actions in Sunday's win over Charlotte. Clapton had concussion like symptoms. Ryan Finnerty took a slash in the first period of Tuesday's loss.
The Stingrays will travel to play the Ice Pilots in Pensacola on Friday evening. South Carolina will begin a three game home stand on Tuesday, March 7th against Pensacola.
