Augusta Lynx News Release

The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that they have traded forward Joel Stepp to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for goaltender Jani Hurme.

Stepp, who currently ranks third on the Augusta Lynx in scoring with 13 goals and 39 points, was originally selected by Anaheim in the third round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. The 23-year-old center has split time between the ECHL and AHL for the previous two seasons, including 17 games with the Portland Pirates this season where he scored twice and totaled three points with a -2 rating and 21 minutes in penalties.

Hurme, meanwhile, split time between the AHL's Chicago Wolves and ECHL's Columbia Inferno. The 31-year-old netminder posted a 6-7-2 record with Columbia, and a 3.49 GAA and .903 save percentage.

Atlanta immediately assigned Stepp to the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.

Augusta returns to action on Saturday night with their only game of the weekend coming in Columbia, SC against the Inferno. Slated for a 7:30 pm start, all Lynx season ticket holders receive $3 off tickets at the Inferno box office. Radio coverage on NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630 will start one half-hour before faceoff with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show.
