Burlington Bees News Release
PEORIA, IL- Andrew Ray finished a triple shy of the cycle, but the Peoria Chiefs used a four-run fourth to knock off the Burlington Bees 7-5 on Tuesday night at Peoria Chiefs Stadium.
The Bees (6-5) took an early 4-0 lead after the first two innings, getting two runs apiece in the first two frames, but the Chiefs (5-6) fought back in the middle innings to send the Bees back to the .500 mark.
Ray knocked in two with the bases loaded in the first off of Joe Cuda and then brought home another on a double in the second. Cuda lasted two innings, giving up four runs, one earned. The Bees forced Cuda to throw over 30 pitches in the first two innings, but the bats went quiet the rest of the way.
Peoria took a 5-4 lead with four runs in the fourth off of Garrett Baker, which included a two-run single by Jacob Wilson and a RBI single from Charlie Tilson. Baker surrendered four runs in just two-thirds of an inning.
Ray tied the game at 5-5 with a solo home run over the left field wall in the top of the fifth off of Michael Andrete (1-0), but Kurt Spomer (1-1) surrendered a leadoff triple to Ildemaro Vargas, who scored two batters later on a single by Breyvic Valera.
Joe Scanio threw three scoreless innings for the hold, while Dixon Llorens fired a perfect ninth for his second save.
Burlington and Peoria will meet in the rubber match of the series on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
