
Captains Top Dragons 10-4 in Series Opener Tuesday

Eastlake, Ohio-Leonardo Castillo and Logan Vick each collected three hits as part of a 14-hit attack as the Lake County Captains defeated the Dayton Dragons 10-4 on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series. The loss dropped the Dragons to 3-8 on the season while Lake County improved to 3-7.
Lake County picked up at least two hits in each of the first five innings and broke open a 6-4 game with three runs in the fifth to take a 9-4 lead. The Dragons collected seven hits over the first five innings but were held hitless over the final four.
Dayton took a 2-1 lead in the second inning when Junior Arias drilled a long two-run home run to left field with Jeff Gelalich at third. The homer was Arias' second of the year. But Lake County took the lead for good with three runs in the third to go ahead 4-2.
Dayton scored in the top of the fourth on a run-scoring double by Nick O'Shea to make it 4-3, but Lake County responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 6-3. The Dragons scored in the fifth when Zach Vincej singled, went to second on Jesse Winker 's ground out, stole third, and scored on Seth Mejias-Brean 's RBI ground out to make it 6-4. Lake County scored three in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Dragons starting pitcher Wandy Peralta (0-2) lasted three and two-thirds innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits. He walked two and struck out two to suffer the loss.
Out of the Dayton bullpen, Tony Amezcua followed Peralta and worked one and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) with two walks and no strikeouts. He also tied a club record by throwing four wild pitches. Alejandro Chacin tossed one and two-thirds innings, allowing just one hit and no walks with three strikeouts. Sean Lucas pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.
The Dragons finished with seven hits. Arias was 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs batted in, and two runs scored. Gelalich also had two hits.
The Dragons play at Lake County again on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Ismael Guillon (0-1, 4.91) will start for Dayton against Lake County's Ryan Merritt (0-2, 2.00) in a battle of left-handers. The next home game is Friday, April 19 against the Bowling Green Hot Rods at 7:00 p.m.
Notes: The Dragons lost two first basemen to knee injuries in the game. Carlos Sanchez suffered a sprained knee in the bottom of the first inning and was replaced by Nick O'Shea, who left with a hyper-extended knee in the fourth. Both will be examined on Wednesday...Both Vincej and Gelalich stole third base in the game for the Dragons. Vincej also stole second...Lake County went 7 for 20 with runners in scoring position.
