Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa (APRIL 16, 2013) - Despite a two-run seventh, an early Clinton lead proved too much for Quad Cities, as the River Bandits dropped game one of a double-header to the LumberKings by a score of 6-3 on Tuesday night at Modern Woodmen Park.

A pair of infield hits, an error, a hit batsmen and a 2-run single off the bat of left fielder Dario Pizzano led to four LumberKing runs in the second inning. First baseman Taylor Ard hit a slow roller down the third base line that hit the bag and stayed in fair territory for an infield-single to leadoff the inning. Right fielder, and nephew of former major leaguer Vladimir Guerrero, Gaby Guerrero reached on a fielding error by Quad Cities second baseman Joe Sclafani. Two batters later catcher Tyler Marlette tallied an infield-singlein a similar fashion to his first baseman with a slow roller that stayed on the third base line before trailing into fair territory in front of on-looking River Bandit catcher Jobduan Morales to load the bases. River Bandits' starter Lance McCullers hit shortstop Brock Hebert with a fastball to bring in the first run. A sacrifice fly to right off the bat of second baseman Ketel Marte and the single by Pizzano brought in the final three Clinton runs of the inning.

The LumberKings would get two more in the third on a leadoff single by third baseman Patrick Kivlehan, followed by a double off the bat of Ard and single by designated hitter Jordy Lara.

Quad Cities got on the board with one run in the sixth. Three straight walks to Sclafani, shortstop Carlos Correa and designated hitter Chase Davidson by Clinton reliever Jeremy Dobbs loaded the bases with no outs for the Bandits to begin the frame. First baseman Jesse Wierzbicki, whose six-game hit streak was snapped during the contest, knocked a sacrifice fly to right to score Sclafani and advance Correa to third. Davidson stole second base to put two runners in River Bandits' scoring position with third baseman Rio Ruiz at the plate. Ruiz skied a fly ball that was caught by center fielder Guillermo Pimentel in left-center, who fired to third in time to tag Davidson ahead of Correa crossing the plate for an inning-ending double-play.

Quad Cities left fielder Terrell Joyce connected on a RBI-double to straight-a-way center that scored catcher Jobduan Morales from first base in the seventh. The River Bandits' backstop led off the final frame with a walk. Back-to-back walks issued by Clinton reliever Jeremy Dobbs to center fielder Jordan Scott and Sclafani loaded the River Bandit bases with one out for Correa. The No. 1 overall selection in the 2012 draft grounded out to Dobbs to drive in Joyce from third and advance Sclafani and Scott to second and third respectively. Davidson then grounded out to second for the game's final out.

McCullers (0-2) allowed six runs (three earned) on seven hits, struck out one and walked one in two and one-third innings to suffer the loss. Mitchell Lambson tossed three and two-thirds scoreless innings and Cameron Lamb pitched a scoreless seventh in relief for the River Bandits.

Stephen Landazuri (1-0) delivered five scoreless innings, struck out seven and walked three, holding the Bandits to one hit earning the win for the visiting Clinton LumberKings. Right-hander Grady Wood collected his second save on the year, securing the final two outs of the game. Dobbs allowed three runs on one hits and six walks in one and one-third innings.

Right-hander Daniel Minor ((1-0) will take the mound for the River Bandits against lefty Scott DeCecco (1-1) in game two the double-header tonight.
