Raptors 905 Earn First Victory of the Season

Raptors 905 (1-8), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors, earned their first win of the season, taking down the Maine Celtics (4-4) 125-114. Javon Freeman-Liberty led the 905 with 31 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocks, all season-highs. The Celtics were led by DJ Steward's near triple-double, totaling 16 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.

      The two teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter, with Freeman-Liberty scoring the first 10 points for the 905. Maine created some separation as the first quarter came to an end, taking an eight-point lead going into the second. The two teams played a nearly even second quarter, allowing Maine to hold onto their lead going into the half.

      Down seven points, the 905 found their rhythm early, outscoring the Celtics 20-7 in the opening minutes of the second half. The 905's strong defense held the Celtics to 14 points in the third quarter, as they put up 33 points. The two teams played an evenly matched final frame, leading the Raptors 905 to their first win of the season.

      Kobi Simmons provided complementary scoring for the 905, adding 10 points, nine rebounds, and a career-high 13 assists. Jordan Schakel contributed 21 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in Maine's loss.

      The Raptors 905 head south of the border for a three-game road trip beginning Wednesday, at 7:00 pm against the Westchester Knicks. The Celtics continue their road trip in Capital City, taking on the Go-Go for a matinee Sunday.
