Herd Drives Past Motor City

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the Motor City Cruise 131-122 in the second game of the back-to-back series. The Herd took control of the game early in the first quarter and held it for the majority of the game with only five lead changes. Shooting made a huge difference in the game with Wisconsin going 57.3% from the field and 77.8% from the free throw line. The Herd also outscored the Cruise in second-chance points, fast break points and points in the paint.

Milwaukee Bucks two-way players topped the Herd leaderboard with Lindell Wigginton posting 26 points, TyTy Washington with 24, and Marques Bolden with 20.

The top scorer for Motor City Cruise was Zavier Simpson with 30 points while Jontay Porter added 23 points.

Lindell Wigginton got the Herd off to a hot start scoring the first six points for the team. Marques Bolden added to the momentum by hitting the next three baskets for the Herd. The teams stayed close tying the game five times before Lindell Wigginton put the Herd on top with a free throw. The Cruise countered with three quick buckets to take the lead 33-30 at the end of the first quarter.

Jazian Gortman opened the second frame with back-to-back baskets, but it wasn't enough to take the lead. The game turned in favor of the Herd at the seven-minute mark as they grabbed a four-point advantage. The Cruise battled back to tie the game, but Marques Bolden swished a three-point shot to keep the Herd in control. Wisconsin continued to dominate developing a nine-point head start with two minutes remaining in the half. The Cruise proceeded to outscore the Herd 7-2 to come within four. The half ended in favor of the Herd 63-59 with the three Milwaukee Bucks two-ways leading the way with double-digits each.

Motor City tied the game once before going ahead early in the third quarter. The Herd responded with five unanswered points to grab back the upper hand. The Cruise stayed close for the next two minutes before the Herd hit a 12-2 run to go ahead by double digits. The Cruise attempted to break down the lead, but the Herd held on to edge the Cruise 101-89 after the quarter.

Wisconsin tip-offed the fourth quarter with consecutive baskets from Jazian Gortman. Stevie Thompson Jr. added another basket to give the Herd its largest lead of the game at 16. The Cruise answered with back-to-back baskets. The Herd continued to run with double-digits until the Cruise charged back to come within eight points at the three-and-a-half-minute mark. Wenyen Gabriel converted a three-point play to give the Herd an 11-point advantage. The teams traded baskets until the Cruise cut the lead to nine points. Both teams secured two baskets before the final buzzer. The Herd won 131 -122.

The Herd will return home to take on the Windy City Bulls next Tuesday with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. CST.
