SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 30, 2015) - Bobby Butler scored two goals to lead the San Antonio Rampage (25-14-4-0) to a 5-2 win over the Charlotte Checkers (16-22-5-1) in front of 7,605 at the AT&T Center on Friday night.

John McFarland scored his third goal of the season and first since he returned from injury on Jan. 11 to kick off the scoring. McFarland took a pass from Shane O'Brien and got a jump on the Charlotte defense, wristing a shot past Drew MacIntyre.

The Checkers evened the score at one with Alex Aleardi's fifth of the season at 6:27, but the Silver and Black answered less than two minutes later, as Jesse Blacker scored his second goal in as many games to give the Rampage a 2-1 lead.

San Antonio would hold a 3-1 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play, as Bobby Butler flipped in a rebound off a Vincent Trocheck shot to give the Rampage a two-goal lead.

Chad LaRose scored just 1:01 into the middle frame to bring Charlotte within one, and the Rampage took a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission.

Bobby Butler scored his second of the game late in the third period, and Greg Zanon netted a shorthanded empty-net goal at 17:27 to seal a 5-2 win for the Rampage.

Michael Houser finished with 30 saves on 32 shots, and the Silver and Black held Charlotte scoreless on six power-play opportunities.

KEY STAT

With two goals on the night, Butler is now tied for fourth in the league with 19 goals.

LINEUP NOTES

The Rampage line combinations remained nearly identical to Thursday night's game against the Texas Stars. Tony Turgeon replaced Andrew Yogan on the Rampage's fourth line, playing alongside Wade Megan and John McFarland. Yogan and Corban Knight were healthy scratches. Michael Houser made his 14th start in net.

QUOTABLE

"He was aware they were probably going to pull the goalie and saw the opportunity. We encourage that. In our minds, he's the best penalty killer in the American Hockey League."

- Rampage Assistant Coach Scott Allen on Greg Zanon's shorthanded empty-net goal in the third period
