Norfolk Admirals News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Emerson Etem scored three goals for his second hat trick as a professional in a 5 -3 win for the Norfolk Admirals over the Binghamton Senators Friday night in New York.
Norfolk opened the scoring at 8:05 of the first period. William Karlsson crossed the puck through the crease from below the right circle underneath Senators' goaltender Peter Mannino. Emerson Etem scooped up the pass on the other side to claim the first lead of the night.
The Long Beach, California native added another to the board just 3:43 later to give the Admirals a 2-0 advantage. The puck ricocheted off the boards into the left circle, and Etem whipped it top shelf. The unassisted marker doubled the Norfolk advantage and the Admirals went in to the first intermission in control.
Binghamton cut the Admirals' lead in half with the lone goal in the second frame. Aaron Johnson dumped a pass deep into the left corner for David Dziurzynski. The Senators' left winger threw a backhand pass towards the net to Darren Kramer who threaded a wrister under the left pad of Gibson at 5:24.
The 2-1 count lasted until 12:11 of the third before three goals lit the lamp within two minutes. Binghamton tied the game off a power-play goal. Chris Wideman sent a shot from the left circle, and Gibson made the initial save. The puck fell to his left side and Cole Schneider jabbed home the rebound to knot the score at 2-2.
Norfolk pulled in front once again exactly 40 seconds after the Schneider goal. Josh Manson wristed a shot from blue line that deflected off of a Binghamton player standing at the crease. Manson's second of the year made it 3-2 Norfolk at 12:51 of the third period.
Just 26 seconds later, the lead jumped back to two when Nic Kerdiles found Max Friberg's stick near the slot. Friberg one-timed the feed to beat Mannino far post. The goal came at 13:17 to lift the Admirals into a commanding 4-2 advantage with fewer than seven minutes to go.
Binghamton responded with a give-and-go between Shane Prince and Carter Camper. Prince finished it with his 15th of the year at 14:29 to the right of Gibson, breathing life into the Senators who trailed, 4-3.
Despite a rally by the Senators, Gibson stood strong between the pipes. The final tally of the game came from Etem's third goal of the night to complete the hat trick. Chris Wagner skated through the left circle before sending it over to Etem at the right side. Etem wristed a shot over a sprawling Mannino at 19:15 ending Binghamton's comeback bid
Gibson saved 23 of the 26 shots that he faced, and Mannino saved 39 on 44 opportunities.
Norfolk went one for three on the power play, and Binghamton went one for four on the man advantage.
The Admirals improve to 17-22-3-2 with the win over the Senators. Norfolk will meet Binghamton again Saturday night to finish their back-to-back series. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m.
