PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seth Griffith scored two goals, including the game-winner as the Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks in the first half of a home-and-home on Friday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center.
The Sharks scored in the first minute of the game, as Jeremy Langlois lit the lamp on a breakaway that started with a Bruins turnover in the neutral zone. It was the first of his two goals in the game.
Zach Trotman tied the game at 1-1 with a wrister from the blue line. Alexander Khokhlachev gaved the Bruins a lead they would not relinquish, solely because of three more goals. Colin Stuart passed the puck into the right wing corner, and Khokhlachev maneuvered in front, dragged it to the left wing side and gave Providence its first lead of the game at 6:41.
The Bruins scored twice in three times on the man advantage, and started their first power play off with a 1:20 rush. With 0:20 left on the penalty, the Bruins drew another penalty. Joe Morrow lit the lamp on a 5-on-4 at 9:27 with a slapper from the blue line. Matt Lindblad initiated the give-and-go with Morrow.
In the middle frame, Griffith scored the first of his two on the night with a wrister inside the blue line at 6:03. Morrow and Khokhlachev each picked up their second points of the night with assists. Freddie Hamilton had an answer on the power play for the Sharks to pull back within a couple (4-2) at 19:33.
Providence scored the first goal of period number three, as Griffith struck again on the power play . He worked much harder this time around, weaving around Worcester goalie J.P. Anderson right in front of the crease.
That gave the home team a 5-2 advantage that it would need in the end. Worcester came back with a pair of goals, including Langlois again at 17:56 (on the power play) and Matt Taormina's with 1:12 remaining in regulation.
On his conditioning stint, Niklas Svedberg made 14 saves in a row at one point.
The Bruins next contest is also against the Sharks on Saturday at 7:00pm at the DCU Center.
