Barons Battle Back to Down Monsters, 4-3 in OT
January 30, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
After 5:00 of play in the seven-minute overtime period, and with the game tied 3-3, Ford sent a shot from the point that caromed off the crossbar, bounced off the back of Lake Erie goalie Calvin Pickard and landed behind the net minder, where Oesterle shuffled the puck into the open net.
With 55 seconds remaining in regulation and Oklahoma City down 3-2, Ford tied the game when he took a pass from Brad Hunt just beyond the right circle and fired a one timer past the blocked side of Pickard to force the eventual overtime period.
Oklahoma City goaltender Richard Bachman stopped 25 shots to earn his 14th win of the year and his seventh consecutive decision dating back to Dec. 16.
Lake Erie netted all three of its goals in the first period. At the 7:15 mark of the frame, Joey Hishon took a pass from Tomas Vincour at the top of the right circle and fired a shot past Oklahoma City goalie Richard Bachman for a 1-0 Monsters lead.
At the 11:42 mark of the first, a strange play gave Lake Erie a 3-0 lead. Ben Street sent a shot on net that deflected into the air behind the Barons net, where Street then batted the puck back towards the net before it glanced off of Paul Carey and past Bachman.
The Monsters extended their lead to 3-0 on the power play with the Barons' Martin Marincin serving a high-sticking penalty assessed at 17:07 of the first. At the 18:57 mark, Andrew Agozzino took a wide-open pass in the slot from Vincour and sent a wrist shot under the glove of Bachman.
More than halfway through the second period, Oklahoma City got on the board when Greger Hanson scored his first goal as a member of the Barons, taking a pass from Ford and rifling a shot past Pickard at the 13:50 mark.
The Barons cut the Monsters' lead to 3-2 at the 10:05 mark of the third period when Brandon Davidson sent a pass to Hunt, who fired a one timer from the point that sailed past Pickard.
Oesterle's goal was his second game-winning goal in overtime this season.
The teams meet again Saturday, Jan. 31 in a 7 p.m. start at the Cox Convention Center.
