Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY -- The Albany Devils seven-game point streak came to an end with a 4-1 setback against the St. John's IceCaps Friday at Times Union Center. Tim Sestito found the back of the net for the Devils, giving him a goal and two assists in the last two games.

Albany, which was 5-0-2-0 in its previous seven outings, moved to 21-15-4-5. St. John's improved to 19-21-5-1.

"They did a pretty good job and we let them; that was the problem," said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. "I felt in the second we started to make a bit of a push. We had a couple of real good shifts for about a six to eight minute stretch. We controlled the play, but it was all perimeter."

Kyle MacKinnon led the IceCaps with three assists and John Albert had a goal and assists. Will O'Neill also registered a multi-point game, posting a pair of helpers. Other St. John's goal scorers included Carl Klingberg, Chase Balisy and Keaton Ellerby.

St. John's netminder Connor Hellebuyck -- a 2015 AHL All-Star -- earned his 19th win with 22 stops. At the other end, Scott Clemmensen, who had won his last two starts, turned aside 11 shots.

"They defended really well," Sestito said. "I think we had 14 shots through two periods, but only one or two were really dangerous."

Klingberg opened the scoring, redirecting O'Neill's point shot at 4:16 of the first period. The Devils responded when Sestito created an offensive-zone turnover and picked the upper right corner at 10:14.

St. John's special teams took over from there. Balisy scored on a quick turnaround try on the power play at 14:19 of the first period and Albert scored on a semi-breakaway while shorthanded at 8:25.

"They definitely came out with a lot of jump, and were on us early," Sestito said. "It's not an excuse. They kind of out battled us. They won the special teams battle; the penalty kill got one on our power play. We got out worked for the majority of the night."

Ellerby concluded the scoring on an odd-man rush at 17:04 of the third period.

The Devils, who moved to 12-7-2-3 on home ice, owned a 23-15 shot advantage.
