St. John's IceCaps News Release

The St. John's IceCaps made good when it counted, scoring four times on just 15 shots in a 4-1 win over the Albany Devils Friday night at Times Union Center.

Kyle MacKinnon notched three assists, John Albert had a goal and an assist, and Will O'Neill added a pair of helpers to give St. John's the win in their first game following the All-Star break.

Keaton Ellerby also scored for the IceCaps, who improved to 19-21-5-1 on the season. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 22-of-23 shots for the win.

The IceCaps got on the board first on Klingberg's team-leading 15th of the season. O'Neill wristed a shot on goal from the left point that Klingberg deflected past Devils goaltender Scott Clemmensen for a 1-0 lead at 4:16 of the opening period.

The Devils stormed right back and capitalized on a fortunate bounce deep in IceCaps territory. The puck took a bad hop on Julian Melchiori in the corner and Tim Sestito snapped it up before beating Hellebuyck to tie things at one.

On a power play later in the period the IceCaps converted to retake the lead. MacKinnon cycled the puck down low to Balisy, who spun out front and tucked a shot underneath Clemmensen to give St. John's a 2-1 advantage.

Near the midway point of the second the IceCaps displayed their shorthanded prowess as Albert made it 3-1. MacKinnon sprung the reigning AHL shorthanded goals leader and the centre went to the backhand on the breakaway to beat Clemmensen.

The IceCaps shut the door the rest of the way and received more insurance late in the game, this time from Ellerby. Blair Riley fed the pinching defenceman, who went to the backhand on the rush to pot his second of the season and put the game out of reach.
