SAN ANTONIO (November 13, 2013) - San Antonio Rampage General Manager Mike Santos announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has reassigned goaltender Michael Houser and forward Logan Shaw to the club's ECHL affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones. In addition, the team has also loaned forward Philippe Cornet to the Cyclones.
Houser, 21, won four of his first five starts at the AHL level this season (4-1-0), allowing a combined 11 goals when he manned the crease for a 2.17 goals-against average and a 0.917 save percentage. Houser returns to Cincinnti where he spent the duration of the 2012-13 campaign, posting a 17-10-2 record, along with a 2.55 goals-against average and a 0.917 save percentage to help lead the Cyclones to the North Division crown. The Youngstown, Ohio native became the first American-born goalie to win the Red Tilson Trophy, which is awarded to the most outstanding player in the Ontario Hockey League, following his 2011-12 season with the London Knights. Houser posted a 46-15-1 record to tie the OHL single-season record for the most wins by a goaltender.
Shaw, 21, has suited up in seven games for the Rampage in his first professional season. The rookie winger finished second on the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL) in scoring last year, recording 68 points (26 goals, 42 assists) in 67 games while also finishing with a team-high plus-30. The third-round selection (76th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers played in 311 games for Cape Breton (2008-12) and Quebec (2012-13) posting 187 points (86 goals, 101 assists) during his five-year major junior career.
Cornet, 23, recorded one assist in his first four games with the Rampage since signing with the club in the offseason. The winger played the majority of the last three seasons for the Oklahoma City Barons. The 6-foot, 196-pound forward tallied 15 goals and 18 assists in 46 games for the Barons last year, along with 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) for the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL. Cornet led the Barons with 24 goals during the 2011-12 season and earned a spot on the AHL All-Star Team for his efforts. In all, Cornet has tallied 46 goals and 47 assists in 173 games for the Barons in his first three professional seasons (2010-13). Cornet has also recorded four goals and 12 assists in 31 AHL playoff games.
The Rampage continue their three-game road trip on Friday with their first-ever contest against the newly formed Iowa Wild, formerly the Houston Aeros, at 7:00 p.m. from the Wells Fargo Center. The Silver and Black then travel to Rockford for a 7:00 p.m. tilt on Saturday night against the IceHogs before returning to the Alamo City for the club's Cool School Day Game on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the AT&T Center.
