San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (January 6, 2012) - Forward Tim Kennedy scored two power-play goals to lead the San Antonio Rampage in a 4-3 shootout win over the Texas Stars on Friday night at the AT&T Center.
The Rampage got on the board first when Kennedy, who rejoined the team earlier in the day, scored a power-play goal 3:56 into the opening frame. Center Mark Cullen sent a cross-crease pass that went off of forward Bracken Kearns and came to Kennedy, who fired a shot by Texas goaltender Andrew Raycroft from the top of the crease to give San Antonio a 1-0 advantage.
San Antonio extended their lead to 2-0 with another power-play tally at the 14:21 mark of the first. Left wing Evan Barlow started the play with a pass to the left sideboards to defenseman Mike Vernace. Vernace fed center James Wright for a one-timer that beat Raycroft inside the left post for Wright's third goal of the year.
Right wing Colton Sceviour brought the Stars to within a goal at 2-1 with a shot from the blue line that found its way past Rampage netminder Dov Grumet-Morris 2:31 into the second. Center Ryan Garbutt and defenseman Hubert Labrie assisted on Sceviour's sixth score of the campaign.
The Stars knotted the game at 2-2 nearly 10 minutes later when rookie forward Matt Fraser potted a shorthanded goal. Fraser skated over the San Antonio blue line and ripped a shot over Grumet-Morris' left shoulder for his 17th marker of the year. Center Travis Morin notched the only helper on the play.
Kennedy regained the lead for San Antonio with his second score of the game at 15:22 of the middle stanza. His second power-play goal of the night and the Rampage's third of the contest came off of a shot from the right circle that eluded Raycroft's blocker and sailed into the net to hand San Antonio a 3-2 advantage. Kearns and defenseman Tyson Strachan registered the assists on Kennedy's third marker of the season.
Texas left wing Eric Godard quickly tied the game back up at 3-3 on a slap shot from the top of the left circle that beat Grumet-Morris on the ice to the far post. Left wing Ondrej Roman picked up the lone helper on Godard's first tally of 2011-12.
In the shootout, forwards A.J. Jenks, Greg Rallo, and Mark Cullen all scored for the Rampage while Grumet-Morris denied all three Texas shooters he faced.
Grumet-Morris turned aside 31 of the 34 Stars shots he faced in regulation for his sixth win of the year while Raycroft made 27 stops on 30 Rampage attempts in the Texas loss.
The Rampage (17-16-2-0) take the ice again on Sunday at the AT&T Center when they host in-state rival Houston Aeros at 3:30 p.m.
