NORFOLK, Va. -- The Albany Devils erased a four-goal deficit in the third period and Joe Whitney netted the game-winning goal at 3:31 to give the Devils a 5-4 win against the Norfolk Admirals Friday at Scope Arena. The improbable comeback took place with less than 13 minutes remaining in regulation, helping the Devils to improve to 15-13-5-2. The loss moves the Admirals to 21-11-1-2.

Nick Palmeiri began the scoring for Albany at 7:47 of the third and was followed by goals from Mike Hoeffel at 10:06 and Matt Anderson at 10:59. With an extra attacker on the ice, Eric Gelinas netted the game-tying tally with just 26 ticks remaining.

In overtime, Norfolk's Trevor Smith was called for tripping, giving Albany a full two-minute power play. Matt Anderson and Peter Harrold worked the puck towards the net and Whitney was on the right doorstop to cash in on a follow-up opportunity.

The comeback marks the third-consecutive game the Devils have forced overtime with third-period goals. The team is now 1-5 in contests decided in overtime.

In goal, Jeff Frazee made his return after a five-game hiatus. His last start came in a 2-1 win at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Dec. 21. Against the Admirals, he made 28 stops, including eight in the third period and one in overtime. He is now 6-8-2 on the season.

Anderson, Hoeffel and Gelinas each registered mutli-point games with a goal and an assist, while Brad Mills registered a pair of assists. For Nofolk, Mark Barberio, Carter Ashton, Evan Oberg and Smith each found the back of the net. Barberio also supplied an assist, Richard Panik registered a pair of helpers.
