Heat Vs Griffins Game Preview
January 6, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release
Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat are looking to extend their six-game home point streak this weekend as the club closes out their four-game season series with the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit Red Wings). Friday and Saturday's games start at 7:00 PM at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre and will feature two teams playing good hockey heading into 2012.
The Heat are the hottest team in the AHL with a record of 9-1-1-0 in their last 11 games, and are just four points out of top spot in the league, with two games in hand on the league-leading Oklahoma City Barons. The visiting Griffins have earned points in each of their last four games, suffering three consecutive overtime loses (one at the hands of the Heat) before beating the Milwaukee Admirals on New Year's Eve.
The Heat have won both of the prior match-ups in the season series with the Griffins, each of which was a wild affair at Van Andel Arena in Michigan. Kolanos has starred in both, collecting a staggering five goals, two assists, fourteen shots and a plus-6 rating in the two wins. The first meeting of the season saw puck-stopper Leland Irving's only career fight as he scrapped Joey MacDonald in a 5-1 win on October 28th. Clay Wilson ended a tight affair in overtime on December 21st as he scored the winner against his former team to give the Heat their second win over the Griffins this season.
Tonight's start is slated for 7:00 PM with the pre-game show starting at 6:30 on Country 107.1. It's another 'Loonie, Toonie, Dog 'n Brew' night at the AESC with hotdogs selling for $1 and beer for $2.
