San Antonio Rampage News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas (January 24, 2011)- The San Antonio Rampage captured a point in the standings but fell 3-2 in overtime to the Texas Stars at Cedar Park Center on Monday night. The Rampage own a 27-18-2-0 record good for 56 points on the year.
Texas jumped to a 1-0 lead with 2:13 remaining in the first period when center Aaron Gagnon tipped in Greg Rallo's shot over Rampage goaltender Matt Climie's right shoulder on the Stars' first power-play opportunity of the night.
The Rampage responded with Maxim Goncharov's power-play goal with eight seconds remaining in the first period to tie the game at 1-1. Stars netminder Richard Bachman left Matt Watkins' one timer open in the crease where Goncharov was positioned to punch it home into the lower left corner of the net. Ryan Hollweg was credited with the second assist.
San Antonio claimed a 2-1 advantage on left wing Alex Picard's 15th goal of the season at the 9:26 mark of the second period. Kearns fed the puck to Picard from behind the net setting him up in the crease for a shot that went high glove side over Bachman. Matt Pope supplied the additional helper.
The Stars tied the game at 2-2 when Climie deflected Jordie Benn's shot from the right point to the left post where Greg Rallo received the puck and snapped a shot to the lower left corner 13:22 into the third period.
Neither team was able to light the lamp before the end of regulation sending the game into overtime.
Stars forward Greg Rallo struck again as he netted the game winner 31 seconds into the extra frame. Gagnon sent a cross-ice pass to Rallo at the right face off dot where he fired a bullet past Climie to the far post to finalize the Stars victory at 3-2.
Climie finished the night with 37 saves on 40 Stars shot attempts while Bachman turned aside 27 Rampage shots on 29 attempts.
The Rampage will host their first-ever kids day game this Wednesday when they face off against the Abbotsford Heat at 10:30 a.m. at the AT&T Center.
