
Amerks Sign Forward Ben Gordon to Professional Tryout

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the club has signed forward Ben Gordon to a 25-game Professional Tryout agreement. Gordon will officially join the team this morning in preparation for its 7:05 p.m. clash with the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday, January 26th at The Blue Cross Arena.
Gordon, a third-year pro, is currently in his second season with the ECHL's Reading Royals, where leads the team in every offensive category in goals (19), assists (23) and points (42). The 5-foot-11, 162-pound forward is also presently eighth overall among the league's top scorers.
A native of International Falls, Minnesota, Gordon makes his fourth stop in the American Hockey League, having recorded seven points (2+5) and six penalty minutes in 16 games last season with Providence, Toronto and Abbotsford. In his pro career, the 25-year-old has tallied 133 points (47+86) in 174 games, including 51 appearances during the 2008-09 season under current Amerks Head Coach Chuck Weber with the Cincinnati Cyclones.
Prior to turning pro, Gordon played four seasons (2004-08) at the University of Minnesota, collecting 98 points (39+59) in 148 career games for the Golden Gophers.
Rochester returns home on Wednesday, January 26th as it welcomes back former Amerk Jamie Johnson and the Grand Rapids Griffins to The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:05 p.m. North Division showdown will be the second of six meetings between the two teams this season and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The game will also be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26.
