Rampage Beat Moose 5-4 in Shootout

SAN ANTONIO (December 11, 2010)- The San Antonio Rampage defeated the Manitoba Moose 5-4 in a shootout in front of a sold-out crowd of 6, 035 for their 7th Annual Salute the Badges Night at the AT&T Center on Saturday night. The Rampage raised $15,025 from their postgame jersey auction to benefit the Alamo Area Fire and Police Memorial.

The Rampage earned their 20th win of the season as they remain atop of the Western Conference standings with 41 points.

Left wing Alex Picard scored two goals in regulation to extend his point-streak to six games.

Right wing Brett MacLean recorded his seventh multiple-point game with two assists on the night leaving him one point shy of the franchise all-time point record of 133 currently held by Joel Perrault.

Manitoba right wing Sergei Shirokov opened the scoring 5:34 after the initial puck drop to give the Moose a 1-0 lead. Former Rampage defenseman Lee Sweatt fired a shot that took an awkward bounce off the end boards and landed at the left goal post where Shirokov was positioned to punch the puck into the net.

Nearly three minutes later, Lee's brother Bill Sweatt backhanded a shot from the slot to extend the Moose lead to 2-0.

The Rampage cut the deficit in half, 2-1, as Andrew Ebbett assisted on Garrett Stafford's shot from above the right faceoff circle that made it through traffic to beat Manitoba netminder Tyler Weiman low glove side 16:21 into the middle stanza. Maclean provided the additional helper.

San Antonio evened the score at 2-2 as Picard netted his 10th goal of the season at the 2:07 mark of the third period. Matt Watkins extended his point-streak to three games with the primary assist on Picard's shot from the right faceoff circle that beat Weiman high stick side.

Manitoba gained control of the lead just 50 seconds later as Kevin Connauton received the puck off a Rampage turnover and fired a shot from the left post to beat Climie high stick side for a 3-2 score.

San Antonio netted the equalizer with Picard's tip-in from the right side of the crease as the puck cleared over the blocker of Weiman 4:20 into the final frame. Petr Prucha extended his point-streak to five games with the helper, while Bracken Kearns recorded an assist for his third consecutive game.

The Rampage took their first lead of the game at 4-3 when left wing Mikkel Boedker redirected MacLean's centering feed to the low stick of side of Weiman and into the back of the net 7:38 into the third period.

With 1:05 remaining in the contest, Manitoba head coach Claude Noel pulled Weiman in favor of a sixth attacker and capitalized on the man-advantage opportunity as Moose left wing Shawn Weller evened the score with 55 seconds left in regulation. Former Rampage player Joel Perrault chipped in on the play with the assist.

After a scoreless overtime, the Rampage entered their fourth shootout of the season. Boedker, Ebbett and Stafford all scored while Climie stopped all three Moose shootout attempts to give San Antonio the 5-4 victory.

Climie finished the night with 36 saves on 40 Manitoba shot attempts. In addition, he earned his fourth shootout victory of the season improving his shootout save percentage to 93.3%, the second best in the league. The Rampage return to the ice next weekend as they host the Texas Stars at 7 p.m. on Friday night at the AT&T Center for their 6th annual Teddy Bear Toss Night.
