Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-- The Admirals comeback attempt was spoiled as they fell 3-2 to the Texas Stars on a overtime goal at the Bradley Center. Milwaukee came back to tie the game with under four minutes to play in regulation on Gabriel Bourque's fourth of the season, but gave up the game-winning goal 17 seconds into overtime.
The overtime game was the tenth this season to go past regulation for Milwaukee, and now moves the Ads (14-8-2-4) into a tie for fourth place with the Stars with 34 points.
The Admirals went on the attack early as Grant Lewis picked up his first goal of the season 2:06 into the first period. Gathering the puck at the right point, Kelsey Wilson gave a perfect centering pass to Lewis who was sitting open backdoor. Lewis chipped the puck past past Texas goaltender Tyler Beskorowany's stick-side for the goal. Mike Bartlett was also credited with an assist.
With both teams going scoreless in the second period, Texas started to heat up halfway through the third period garnering two goals in less than three minues. The first goal came at 11:02 when Colton Sceviour knocked the puck in the net amongst a crowd of skaters. The second Stars goal came from Sean Backman on a strong slap shot from the right boards at 13:25 to put Texas up 2-1.
With less than four minutes to play Gabriel Bourque was able to redirect a shot from Jon Blum to tie the game at 16:02. Before getting checked into the boards at the right point, Bartlett got a pass off to Blum who was sitting at the right point and let go a slap shot. Bourque was sitting in front of the net to redirect the shot past Beskorowany for the goal.
With the score 2-2 both teams came back to the ice for a schedule five minutes of overtime. Unfortunately for Milwaukee it only took 17 seconds for Texas to find the back of the net as Travis Morin put away the game winner. Chet Pickard, who turned aside 33 shots on the night, made an initial save but was upended by a Texas player which left the puck sitting in the crease for an easy tap in by Morin.
Bartlett paced Milwaukee skaters on the offensive side, recording his first multiple point game (2a) on the season.
The Admirals look to rebound against West Division opponent Oklahoma City as they take the ice tomorrow at 5:00 pm at the Bradley Center, the first back-to-back home games of the year. Oklahoma (16-8-1-3) currently sits in third place just ahead of the Admirals with 36 points.
