Peoria Rivermen News Release
The longest break of the season couldn't cool off the Peoria Rivermen as their 3-2 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday night at Carver Arena ran their point-streak to 10 games. After a five-day layoff, Ryan Reaves scored twice to improve Peoria's record to 8-0-2 in their past 10 games.
The Rivermen became the first team in the AHL this season to complete a 10-game point streak, topping both Hamilton (Oct. 19-Nov. 5) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Oct. 9 - Nov. 5) who both collected points in nine straight games.
Peoria got on the board early in the first when Adam Cracknell deked Thomas McCollum and buried a breakaway for his fourth goal of the year. It happened at just 1:48 in and started with Chris Porter's saucer pass from the right boards set up the Cracknell.
The goal triggered teddy bears being thrown from the stands for the annual "Teddy Bear Toss" to benefit the Salvation Army and the Crittenton Centers.
Reaves scored his second of the year at 9:25 giving the Rivermen an early two goal cushion. Phil McRae and Nick Drazenovic were cycling the puck behind the Grand Rapids net until Drazenovic broke out from behind the goal line and hit Reaves with a pass in the slot, which Reaves one-timed in over the blocker of McCollum.
The Griffins responded in the second scoring the only goal of the period at 4:04. Jamie Tardiff received a cross-ice pass from Jamie Johnson in the left circle and one-timed one by Ben Bishop cutting the Rivermen lead in half.
The first Rivermen shot on goal in the third put them back up by two at the 0:23 mark. Reaves poked home a loose puck in front to cap the first multi-goal game of his career. McRae picked up his second assist of the night while Dean Arsene also added an assist.
Grand Rapids made it a 3-2 game with less than four minutes to go. Bishop misplayed the puck left an empty nest for Tardiff who buried his second of the game and 10th of the year on the power-play unassisted.
Bishop made 23 saves to improve to 8-8-1 on the year.
Peoria is off until the face the Griffins again on Friday in Grand Rapids. The game can be heard locally on 96.5 ESPN Radio or online on www.rivermen.net.
