Charleston RiverDogs News Release
AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Charleston RiverDogs won their fourth straight road game and second straight by a score of 5-4 with another dramatic late-game comeback over the Augusta GreenJackets Tuesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
For the third game in a row, the RiverDogs (8-4) rallied back in the eighth inning or later to steal a win from their opponent. This time, it was two costly Augusta (4-7) errors that led to the tying and go-ahead runs scoring in the eighth and ninth inning for Charleston.
The RiverDogs trailed 4-1 heading into the top of the 8th and only had three hits up to that point in the game. With runners on second and third with one out, Connor Spencer drove in two with an RBI double and cut the Augusta lead to 4-3. The next batter, catcher Eduardo de Oleo singled to left field and Spencer scored from second on a throwing error by the left fielder Andrew Cain.
With the game still tied 4-4 in the top of the ninth, another costly error hurt the GreenJackets. With Brandon Thomas on second base, shortstop Jeremy Sy misplayed a ground ball hit by Abiatal Avelino and Thomas raced home to score the go-ahead run for Charleston.
Dillon McNamara pitched two scoreless innings of relief in the eighth and ninth to hold Augusta at bay. He earned his first win of his season after being added to the RiverDogs' roster earlier this week.
The GreenJackets got on the board first with two runs in the second inning on an RBI triple by Cain and a Randy Ortiz followed with a single to drive in Cain. The RiverDogs sliced the lead in half when Cain misplayed a fly ball in left ball off the bat of Allen Valerio. Augusta added to their lead with two more runs on an RBI double by T. Relaford and an RBI single by Jeremy Sy.
With the victory, Charleston stays in sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic League's Southern Division with an 8-4 record. Augusta falls to 4-7.
