Doubleheader Split for Power

(Kannapolis, NC- April 21, 2015)- The West Virginia Power and Kannapolis Intimidators split a doubleheader on Tuesday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The Power took game one 5-3 before falling 2-1 in the second game.

West Virginia struck first with a run off Kannapolis starter Luis Martinez in game one. In the top of the first with two outs, Jordan Luplow walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Taylor Gushue drove in Luplow with a single for a 1-0 Power lead. The Intimidators took a 2-1 edge against Power starter John Sever in the second inning. Toby Thomas singled in Brett Austin and Louie Lechich. Michael Suiter's solo home run to lead off the third gave Kannapolis a 3-1 advantage.

West Virginia rallied for a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth. Elvis Escobar singled and advanced on a base hit by Cole Tucker. With two down, Jordan Luplow tripled in both players to tie the game. The Power took the lead when Luplow scored on a passed ball. West Virginia added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to cap the scoring.

Sever pitched four innings, but did not factor in the decision. Junior Lopez (2-0) worked two innings before Sam Street pitched the seventh for his second save. Martinez (0-1) took the loss after allowing the first four Power runs.

In game two, Kannapolis struck for a run in the first inning of West Virginia starter Jose Regalado. Eddy Alvarez singled, stole second and scored on a single by Chris Curley. The Power tied the game in the fourth on a single by Chase Simpson to plate Tito Polo, but the Intimidators answered quickly on a Curley double that drove in Christian Stringer for a 2-1 lead.

Jake Burnette (0-2) took the loss after allowing one run on one hit over two-thirds of an inning. Jacob Morris (1-1) notched the win and Peter Tago pitched two frames for his first save.

The Power and Intimidators wrap up this three game series on Wednesday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 10:05 am. Alex McRae and Jordan Guerrero will start for West Virginia and Kannapolis, respectively.
