Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC-- On a perfect night for baseball in the Blue Ridge, the Asheville Tourists had two opportunities to come away with a victory against the Hickory Crawdads with a double-header on the schedule. Unfortunately for the Tourists, they dropped both contests and never once held a lead. The Crawdads won game one 10-0 and followed that up with a 5-4 win in game two.

In the first game, Asheville managed just two hits; a double by Wes Rogers in the first and a single by Henry Garcia in the fourth. They never had a runner reach third base. Hickory meanwhile received a two Home Run effort by Jose Trevino while Eduard Pinto added three hits. Collin Wiles earned the win with five shutout innings. Wiles has now totaled 12 scoreless innings against Asheville this season.

Game two was a bit more competitive. The Crawdads jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one. Asheville answered by tying the game with three runs in the third. Drew Weeks hit a solo Home Run and the Tourists also drew a bases loaded walk and hit-by-pitch.

Hickory plated a run in each of the next two innings; the latter a solo blast from Ronald Guzman. Trailing 5-3 heading into the seventh, former Tourist and current Crawdad Jefri Hernandez entered to pitch against his old team. Hernandez surrendered a one out Home Run to Randy Reyes, but induced a game ending line-out to preserve the game.

Asheville will look to avoid being the victim of a series sweep with the homestand finale scheduled for 7:05pm Wednesday night.
