Tacoma Rainiers News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Rainiers rode a stellar start from Anthony Vasquez to 1-0 win over the Sacramento River Cats at Raley Field on Thursday.
Vasquez (3-0) held the River Cats to just four hits and struck out three over 7.2 innings, and did not allow a batter to advance past second base until the seventh.
The left-hander has now turned in 10 consecutive quality starts with the Rainiers dating back to July 10 of last season, going 6-3 with a 2.14 ERA over that stretch. He entered tonight's contest ranked fourth in the Pacific Coast League in ERA, and first in WHIP and batting average against.
Reliever Shawn Kelley held Sacramento scoreless and struck out two in the ninth on the way to collecting his team-leading second save of the season.
At the plate, catcher Guillermo Quiroz's solo home run in the third inning proved to be all the offense Tacoma needed to notch the club's second consecutive win. Quiroz collected two of the Rainiers four hits on Thursday night.
Right-hander Jarrett Grube (0-0, 0.00) will make his debut in the Rainiers rotation in the club's series finale at Sacramento on Friday, April 19. Right-hander Travis Banwart (1-0, 7.04) is slated to get the start for the River Cats. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
