MEMPHIS, TN - New Orleans used the long ball to beat Memphis 3-2 Thursday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
The Zephyrs blasted three solo home runs in the victory, all while facing Redbirds starter Nick Additon. With a 3-0 Z's lead in the seventh, the 'Birds were finally able to score as Mitch Canham reached home on Pete Kozma's base hit while Amaruy Cazana plated Kozma on an RBI-single to left field. Kozma led the Redbirds going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Additon took the loss, his first on the season, after surrendering all three home runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings while walking one and striking out seven. New Orleans starter J.D. Martin gave up two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out three for the win in his 6.2 innings of work. Sandy Rosario notched his sixth save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Memphis wraps up the homestand tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Memphis right-hander Brandon Dickson heads to the hill against fellow righty Alex Sanabia. Tomorrow night is the annual Scout Sleepover at AutoZone Park. Over 1,000 scouts are participating in the 2012 Scout Sleepover sponsored by Advance Pierre Foods. Each troop will get to parade on the field before the game, enjoy a buffet and then spend the night camping out in the outfield.
