Sky Sox Fall to Padres, 10-2, Snap Their Five-Game Win Streak

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox fell to the Tucson Padres on Thursday morning at Security Service Field by the score of 10-2 in front of 3,046 fans. The loss snapped the Sky Sox five-game winning streak.

In a game delayed by lightning and rain for thirty four minutes, the teams combined to commit six errors and walk eleven batters. Colorado Springs starter Rob Scahill (1-2, 8.56 ERA) allowed five runs, but only one earned, while striking out 11 Padres in his 5.1 innings of work and was handed the loss. The 11 strikeouts were one shy of the home record, and it was the first time in Sky Sox history that a starting pitcher struck out at least 11 batters and suffered the loss. Also the two days between Colorado Springs right-hander Guillermo Moscoso's ten strikeout performance was the closest time period between two double-digit strikeout games in team history.

The Padres blew open a 3-1 game with seven runs in the sixth through eighth innings, including a four-run sixth with three of the four runs coming on a bases-loaded double by Tucson starting pitcher Matt Palmer. Palmer (1-1, 3.68) held the Sky Sox to only two hits and one unearned run in his six innings while striking out five.

Only four Sky Sox batters, including Scahill, collected hits in the game and Colorado Springs managed only one run from two separate bases loaded situations. The Sky Sox went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position for the game.

Colorado Springs will look to earn its second straight series win in the final game of the homestand as they send out right-hander Alex White (0-1, 4.32 ERA), the only Sky Sox starter yet to win a game this season. White will face off against Padres left-hander Colt Hynes (0-1, 3.95 ERA) in the series finale at 6:05 p.m. MT.
