Rainiers send three to All-Star Game

Tacoma, WA – Yearly, fans anxiously await the announcement of the All Star Team roster. This year, Rainiers fans will be able to cheer on three of the finest players in Triple-A baseball. Travis Blackley (LHP), Bucky Jacobsen (DH) and George Sherrill (LHP) have all been chosen to represent the Pacific Coast League and the Tacoma Rainiers in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on Wednesday, July 14.

Travis Blackley, left-handed pitcher for the Rainiers spent the 2003 season in the Texas League where he posted the most wins by a Texas League pitcher since 1978. The Texas League's 2003 Pitcher of the Year finished the season with a 17-3 record. Australia native Blackley is 7-2 with a Pacific Coast League best 2.63 ERA.

Bucky Jacobsen, designated hitter for the Rainiers has spent most of his career in Milwaukee's system before being signed this year as a minor league free agent. The Hermiston, Oregon resident spent 2003 playing for Tennessee where he led the league in home runs (31), slugging percentage (l564), and runs (84). The 6'4", 220 lbs. fan favorite currently has a batting average of .315, 42 runs, 78 hits, 21 home runs, and 66 runs-batted-in. Jacobsen has also been chosen to participate in the Home Run Derby on Monday, July 12 as part of the All Star Game festivities.

George Sherrill, left-handed pitcher for the Rainiers spent four seasons playing Independent League baseball before signing with the Mariners in July of last season. The 6'0", 210 lbs. Memphis native and 2000 graduate of Austin Peay University, is currently 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA.
