Tucson Sidewinders News Release

The Sidewinders-Trappers game was called after 7 innings, with Tucson notching the victory 2-0. RHP Shane Reynolds (2-1) pitched extremely effectively, stifling the Edmonton hitters over 7 scoreless innings, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 9. Edmonton's starter, RHP Mike Johnson (5-3) pitched solid as well despite picking up the loss, allowing only 2 runs in 7 innings.

The Sidewinders plated their only 2 runs in the top of the 1st as RF Josh Kroeger and C Craig Ansman hit back-to-back doubles to fuel the early inning rally. 1B Steve Neal drove in the Sidewinders' second run in the inning with a single. Leadoff man CF Quinton McCracken had a solid night as well as he had a 3-hit night and a SB.

The Trappers managed only 3 hits off Tucson starter Shane Reynolds on their way to their 2nd consecutive loss to the Sidewinders. Their record dropped to 36-37, still 2nd place in the Northern division. The Sidewinders tied their season high with their 5th consecutive victory, bringing their record up to 41-32.

Due to the shortened game, the contest lasted only 2:00. After a 48 minute delay, the umpires decided to call the game due to the heavy rains. 2,376 people were on hand. Probables for game 3 will feature Edmonton's RHP Wilton Chavez (2-7, 4.41) facing Tucson's RHP Phil Stockman (3-2, 5.23). Game time is 7:00 PM.
