GAMEDAY! -- The New Orleans Zephyrs (33-41) will host the Omaha Royals (32-40) today in the 3rd game of a 4 game series. New Orleans is 17-17 at home and continue the 8 game home stand tonight at Zephyr Field. The Z's are in 4th place in the East Division and trail the first place Oklahoma Redhawks by 9.5 games.

BUCK NAMED PCL ALL-STAR - The PCL All-Star Team was announced today and Zephyr catcher John Buck was named. This is the second consecutive year that Buck has been named to the team. He did not play last year due to an injury. The Triple A All-Star Game this season will be played in Pawtucket, RI on July 14.

FREE AGENT TRYOUT CAMP - The Houston Astros will conduct an open tryout camp for prospective professional baseball players at Zephyr Field. The camp will be held on Wednesday, July 21st at 8:30 AM. Participants must be at least 16 years of age. No players selected by a Major League team other than the Houston Astros in the 2004 June Free Agent Draft will be eligible to participate in the camp. American Legion players are required to have a letter from their coach or post commander granting permission to attend the camp. Players must provide their own uniforms, gloves, and shoes. Bats, balls and catching equipment will be furnished by the Houston Astros. No dressing areas will be available, and players should arrive in uniform and ready to begin the tryout. The club will not be responsible for any lost valuables or personal belongings of the participants.

4 MILLIONTH FAN-- The Z's will honor the four millionth fan to attend a home game on Friday night. The four millionth fan will win numerous gifts and prizes including a pair of Zephyrs season tickets for the next two years, two roundtrip airline tickets anywhere in the Continental U.S., courtesy of American Airlines, $100 shopping spree at The Esplanade Mall, a team autographed ball and jersey, a free T-Mobile cell phone and much more.

THE LONGBALL – New Orleans has hit 84 homers this season. The Z's hit a total of 88 last year.

TIGHT PLAY – The Zephyrs have played 74 games this season, the team has played 26 one run games (13-13).

HOMERING AT HOME – The Zephyrs have hit a homer in 15 straight home games. New Orleans has hit 35 home runs at home this season in 34 games. Last year the club had hit just 27 homers in 72 home games. The new dimensions have been responsible for 20 homers, 11 for the Z's and 9 for the opponent.

IRON MAN- Royce Huffman is the only player that has played in all of the games. No Z player has started every game.

STREAKING BURKE – Zephyr 2b Chris Burke has reached base in 30 consecutive games., tied for the longest streak in the PCL. He has missed two consecutive games and is listed as day to day with a hamstring injury.

BURKE TO THE FUTURES GAME – 2b Chris Burke will play in this years Major League Baseball Futures game in Houston on July 11th. The other Astros that will be represented will be Round Rock outfielder Willy Taveras and Round Rock Manager Jackie Moore will be a coach for Team USA.

ALL-STAR MALONEY – Z's Manager Chris Maloney has been named to be a coach for the PCL All-Star at this years AAA Game in Pawtucket. Salt Lake Manager Mike Brumley will manage the PCL and Iowa hitting coach Pat Listach will also be a coach.

SPRINGER ADDED – Righthander Russ Springer joined the Zephyrs yesterday. The 35 year old has played with 8 different major league teams including the Astros. He played for LSU in the late 80's holds several pitching records and help lead the Tigers to 2 College World Series.

ROSTER NOTES- The Zephyrs have 24 players on the active roster. The Zephyrs have made 13 moves in this past 10 days. RHP Bobby Chouinard was released yesterday. New Orleans has made a total of 39 transactions this season. The Z's have two players on the teams disabled list LHP Shaun Babula and C Danny Fatheree, both are eligible to be activated.

PETTITE UPDATE – Astros LHP Andy Pettite threw five scoreless innings in his second rehab assignment Wednesday at Class AA Round Rock against Midland. He struck out five, while allowing one hit and a walk in front of a crowd of 12,240 at Dell Diamond, getting a no-decision in a 1-0 loss. Pettitte threw 43 of his 72 pitches for strikes and briefly lost command when he threw a dozen balls in the fourth. He will likely start in his spot in the rotation which comes up again Tuesday at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs. If he is activated the Astros would have to make a player move.

HOMER HIATT HITS 300!- OF Phil Hiatt hit his 300th Minor League Baseball Home Run last Tuesday night in Memphis. He is the active leader in the Minor Leagues! He is 5th in the PCL with 18 homers. The all-time Minor League Home Run King is Hector Espino with 484.
