Rainiers Rocked In 7-2 Loss To Reno

May 1, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers were never able to dig themselves out of an early hole in a 7-2 loss to Reno at Cheney Stadium on Friday night.

After three innings of scoreless action, the Aces broke through in a big way with a combined five runs on seven hits over the fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-0 lead they would never relinquish. Reno second baseman Ryan Roberts got the Aces on the board with a two-run double in the fourth and then belted a two-run bomb in the next inning to up the advantage to five runs.

The Aces struck again in the top of the eighth with RBI singles from catcher Sean Coughlin and right fielder Chris Rahl to take Reno's lead to seven runs.

The Rainiers unsuccessfully tried to battle back in the bottom of the eighth, beginning with shortstop Josh Wilson's RBI-single that drove in Ryan Langerhans from third. A bases-loaded walk from third baseman Jack Hannahan cut the lead to five runs, but that was all the offense the Rainiers would put together in the outing.

Taking the loss was Tacoma starter Garrett Olson, who was blistered with five runs on seven hits though five innings of work. The left-hander struck out four and did not issue a walk en route to dropping his second game in his last two starts.

In his Triple-A debut, Reno starter Josh Collmenter fronted a pitching staff that recorded a combined 11 strikeouts against the Rainiers. The right-hander held Tacoma scoreless through seven innings of work, allowing three hits with eight strikeouts and no walks to grab the win.

Reliever Jason Urquidez collected his second save of the season for the Aces after limiting the Tacoma lineup to one hit with a pair of punchouts over the game's final 1.1 innings.

The Rainiers look to rebound when they take on Reno at Cheney Stadium again tomorrow, with first pitch set for 7:00 p.m.
