Oklahoma City Comets News Release

New Orleans center fielder Scott Cousins hit for the cycle, and after two difficult losses to Oklahoma City the Zephyrs rebounded for their best game of the series defeating the RedHawks 8-3 on Saturday Evening at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

Scott Cousins becomes the first Zephyr to hit for the cycle since 2002. His evening began with a solo home run in the second inning followed by a triple in the fourth, then a double in the fifth. After a fly-out in the sixth inning, Cousins was the fourth batter in the top of the ninth inning. An error by Gregorio Petit brought him to the plate. It was a broken bat single to shallow center field that handed Cousins the first cycle of his career.

The Zephyrs plated two runs in the top of the second inning. It was their first lead of the series and was not relinquished the rest of the way. New Orleans tacked on another three runs in the sixth inning which opened up a six-run lead.

Brandon Boggs connected on his third home run in six games with a two-run blast in the fourth inning. Chris Davis was just a home run shy of the cycle, banging out a 4-for-4 night including two doubles and a triple.

Winning pitcher Brian Lawrence (1-2) gave the Zs the start they needed working seven innings, striking out eight, allowing just two runs, while scattering four hits. Guillermo Moscoso ( 1-2) absorbed the loss, lasting five innings, allowing three earned runs, while striking out five. Elizardo Ramirez had the lengthiest relief appearance of any RedHawk this season. Ramirez pitched four innings, striking out two, giving up three earned runs.

Oklahoma City and New Orleans will conclude their four-game set Sunday afternoon at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Michael Ballard and Jorge Sosa are slated to pitch for the RedHawks and Zephyrs respectively with a first pitch scheduled for 4:05 pm.
