Round Rock Express News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Nick Green and Jamie Hoffmann opened the bottom of the ninth inning with a triple and a single, respectively, to lead the Albuquerque Isotopes past the Round Rock Express 8-7 in Friday night's Pacific Coast League action at Isotopes Park. The Express (6-15) have dropped four straight and fall to 2-7 in one-run games.
The last two innings were a boat race as the Express scored two runs in the top of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead only to see the Isotopes (12-8) recapture the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Jason Castro's two-out RBI double knotted the game again at 7-7. However, Green tripled to right on the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth, and Hoffman followed with a single to center on the first pitch he saw.
That made a winner of Brent Leach (3-0), who allowed a run on two hits with a strikeout in the ninth. Starter Scott Elbert lasted 4.0 innings and allowed three runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Gary Majewski (1-1) took the loss for the Express. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks with no strikeouts over 1.0-plus innings, facing both batters in the ninth. Starter Polin Trinidad surrendered five runs on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout over 5.0 innings.
Round Rock plated the game's first runs with a three-spot in the top of the second. Chris Shelton opened the frame with a walk, and Matt Kata followed with a two-run homer, his first round-tripper of the season. Yordany Ramirez later capped the inning with a two-out RBI single.
The Express lead was short-lived, though, as the Isotopes put up five runs on five doubles in the bottom of the inning. Lucas May started the rally with a one-out RBI double. The rest of the Albuquerque runs came with two outs, starting with Elbert's two-run double. Hoffmann and Ivan De Jesus Jr. followed with consecutive RBI doubles.
Jason Bourgeois' solo homer in the fifth cut the Albuquerque lead to one run at 5-4. Oswaldo Navarro tied the game with an RBI single in the eighth, and Bourgeois followed with an RBI groundout. May tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double and later scored on Russ Mitchell's two-out single.
Kata was 4-for-5 with two RBI, turning in Round Rock's first four-hit game of the season. Navarro and Cash each added two hits.
Hoffmann was 3-for-5 with two RBI to lead the Isotopes. De Jesus, May and Mitchell all had two-hit games, while May and Elbert each had two RBI.
Round Rock and Albuquerque continue their four-game series Saturday with an 8:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Isotopes Park. Southpaw Gustavo Chacin (1-1, 1.74 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while the Isotopes send right-hander Josh Lindblom (1-1, 5.57 ERA) to the hill.
