Reno Aces News Release
TACOMA, Wash.-Reno received an offensive lift from the bottom half of the order, but the Aces stranded the bases loaded twice on Saturday night in a 5-2 loss to the Tacoma Rainiers at Cheney Stadium.
Reno's six-through-nine hitters managed to load the bases in the seventh and eighth innings Saturday, but each time the top of the order failed to deliver the knockout blow. The Aces out-hit Tacoma 13-10 on the night, but Reno stranded 12 runners.
Doug Deeds, batting sixth in the order, eight-hole hitter Carlos Corporan and nine-spot batter Chris Rahl each recorded three hits for Reno. Mark Hallberg, the seven-hole hitter, hit a pair of sacrifice flies to account for both Reno runs on the evening.
Aces starter Bryan Augenstein (0-4) was touched-up for five earned runs on nine hits over six innings of work. Zach Kroenke worked the final two frames for Reno, holding the Rainiers scoreless.
The win went to Tacoma starter Luke French (3-0), who scattered just a run on 10 hits over seven innings pitched. French walked five and struck out two on the night.
The Aces and Rainiers hit the final leg of the series on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1:30 p.m. PT. Reno turns to RHP Billy Buckner (1-1, 5.96 ERA), while Tacoma is set to counter with RHP Steven Shell (0-1, 2.87 ERA). The action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM or online by visiting www.RenoAces.com.
