Cubs lose to Omaha Royals

The Omaha Royals hit two solo homers to top the Iowa Cubs 2-1 Saturday night at Principal Park.

In the fourth inning, Omaha's Kila Ka'aihue belted a one-out homer to put the Royals up 1-0. The next inning Omaha took a 2-0 lead when Scott Thorman hit his second home run of the season.

Sam Fuld led off the game for the Cubs with a walk and advanced to second on Darwin Barney's single. Barney singled agin in the fifth, but the Cubs wouldn't score that inning as they tallied just five hits in the game. Iowa's only run came on a seventh-inning balk by Omaha pitcher Roman Colon. Matt Camp singled with two outs and advanced to second on a throwing error by Omaha third baseman Marc Maddox. He then made it to third base on a wild pitch. Sam Fuld walked and the duo got a base on the balk by Colon. Camp also notched two hits in the game.

Iowa's Jay Jackson (2-3, 2.48) allowed two runs on five hits to take the loss. Bryan Bullington ( 2-0, 1.63) picked up the win for Omaha, pitching six scoreless innings.

The Cubs and Royals meet for the final game in this series Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 1:05 p.m. at Principal Park.
