Tacoma Rainiers News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Tacoma Rainiers come-from-behind effort came up short in the club's 13-11 loss to the Salt Lake Bees at Spring Mobile Ballpark on Monday night.
Tacoma cut a 13-5 deficit down to just two runs thanks to a six-run inning in the top of the sixth. Eric Thames and Alex Liddi each drew bases-loaded walks, Mike Zunino hit a sacrifice fly and Carlos Peguero lined an RBI-single to slice the Bees lead down to four runs.
Designated hitter Stefen Romero rounded out the inning with a two-run double, but Salt Lake stifled the Rainiers to just one hit and no runs over the game's final three frames.
The catcher Zunino led the club after going 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI. Zunino leads the league after driving in 25 runs over his first 14 games to start the season.
Carlos Triunfel turned in his fifth multi-hit effort over his last six games, posting two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Thames collected a pair of hits and scored three runs to stretch his hit streak to seven games and extend his on-base to streak to 19 - the longest in the league this season.
Starter James Paxton (1-2) was dealt the loss after surrendering six runs on eight hits and three walks over 1.2 innings.
The Rainiers (9-10) look to secure a series split in the club's finale at Salt Lake (12-7), scheduled for 11:05 a.m. tomorrow, April 22. Right-hander Brian Sweeney (1-0, 4.63) is slated to start for Tacoma against right-hander Matt Shoemaker (1-2, 3.79) for the Bees.
