April 23, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.-A contest between two of the biggest offensive producers in the Pacific Coast League resulted in a pitcher's duel Monday night, with the Reno Aces falling 3-1 to the Sacramento River Cats at Raley Field.
RHP Dan Straily struggled in the first inning for Sacramento, walking three Aces batters. Reno was unable to capitalize on the walks, and did not push across any runs in the frame.
RHP Charles Brewer allowed just two hits through four scoreless innings to begin the ball game. River Cats infielder Daric Barton singled to lead off the fifth, and later scored on a groundout by Jemile Weeks to post the first run of the game.
Reno took advantage of Sacramento's second of four errors on the night in the top of the sixth, as Tyler Bortnick reached base on an error by Straily, then was driven home by an RBI single from Matt Davidson.
A sacrifice fly and RBI single in the bottom of the frame each pushed across a run for Sacramento, extending the River Cats lead to 3-1.
Sacramento committed an error in both the top of the eighth and top of the ninth to allow Reno batters to reach base, but the Aces left their baserunners stranded.
The Aces collected only three hits on the night, with Davidson, Tuffy Gosewisch and Mark Teahen registering one hit each. Two walks issued to Brad Snyder ensured the outfielder's consecutive game on base streak for the road was extended to 11 games.
Brewer gave up three earned runs on four hits and was charged with the loss for Reno. He struck out four. Joe Paterson and Matt Gorgen combined to throw 3 innings of scoreless relief to close the game.
Straily earned his third-straight victory and dealt his second-straight quality start. He gave up only one run through 6.0 innings. Straily walked five and struck out four. Sacramento's bullpen did not allow a hit through the final three innings of the game.
The series wraps up Tuesday afternoon, as the Aces look to split the series with the River Cats. First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m., and all of the action can be heard live on KLPY 630 AM.
Following an off day Wednesday, the Aces return home for an eight game homestand to face the Fresno Grizzlies and Las Vegas 51's. Tickets are on sale for all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
