Isotopes Rout RedHawks, 12-2

Albuquerque, N.M. - The Albuquerque Isotopes (10-9) scored five runs in the first inning and shot out to an 8-0 lead early the game on the way to defeating the Oklahoma City RedHawks (10-9) 12-2 before 6,152 at Isotopes Park Tuesday afternoon.

Albuquerque pounded out a season-high 21 hits and their 12 runs also accounted for the most allowed in a game by the RedHawks this season. Eight of the nine Isotopes in the lineup collected two or more hits, and four players finished with three hits.

The Isotopes wasted no time taking control of the game, scoring five times in the first inning. Albuquerque led 1-0 with none on and two out, before notching six straight hits, resulting in three more runs. Dee Gordon drew a bases-loaded to cap the rally.

When the inning was over, the Isotopes had recorded eight hits and sent 11 batters to the plate. After throwing 45 pitches, RedHawks pitcher Jordan Lyles did not return after the inning concluded. Lyles (1-2) was charged with five runs and eight hits.

The Isotopes kept it going in the second with three more runs. Alfredo Amezaga hit a sac fly, and Matt Wallach added a two-run, two-out single to extend the lead to 8-0.

The RedHawks got on the board in the fifth when Jimmy Paredes hit a solo home run, his third of the season and second of the series.

Matt Angle knocked an RBI single in the sixth and eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-1. The RedHawks scored on an error in the seventh, but the Isotopes finished their monster day at the plate with two more runs in the eighth.

Making a spot start for Albuquerque, Angel Castro got more runs support than necessary. Castro (2-1) allowed one run and five hits over six innings. He struck out two and did not issue a walk.

The loss marked the first time the RedHawks dropped consecutive road games. After winning the first two games of the series, they were outscored 20-3 over the final two games.

For the second-straight game, the RedHawks also struggled at the plate with runners on base, going just 2-for-15. Jake Elmore finished with a team-high three hits.
