COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Tacoma Rainiers late-inning rally came up short in a 5-4 loss to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Security Service Field on Monday.

Trailing 5-3 in the ninth inning, the Rainiers came within a run after Nick Franklin scored Scott Savastano from second base on a two-out single to centerfield. In the club's next at-bat, Luis Jimenez grounded out to first base with the game-tying run aboard at first, sealing Tacoma's third consecutive loss to the Sky Sox.

The Rainiers held an initial 1-0 edge over Colorado Springs in the top of the first inning thanks to the designated hitter Jimenez's one-out RBI-single.

Sky Sox first baseman Chad Tracy tied the score at 1-1 with a solo home run in the third, then Colorado Springs broke the game open with four runs in the fourth. Matt McBride and Brandon Roberts each hit one-run singles, and Tracy drove in two more with a two-RBI double in the inning.

Infielder Scott Savastano tied a season high after collecting three of the Rainiers 12 combined hits on Monday. Jimenez went 2-for-5 and has now recorded multi-hit outings in each of his last five games. The infielder Franklin turned in first multi-hit effort at the Triple-A level after notching a pair of singles.

Rainiers starter Jarrett Grube (0-5) was dealt the loss after allowing all five of the Sky Sox runs on eight hits over 5.0 innings, while walking one and striking out five. Relievers Steve Delabar and Brian Moran combined to hold Colorado Springs to three hits and struck out four over 3.0 scoreless frames from the sixth through the eighth innings.

The Rainiers (31-46) look to avoid a series sweep in the club's finale at Colorado Springs (39-38) tomorrow, June 25, 2012. Right-hander Blake Beavan (1-0, 3.00) is slated to start for Tacoma in the series opener against right-hander Rob Scahill (5-8, 5.96) for the Sky Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
