ROUND ROCK, Texas - After nearly a five-year hiatus, Derrick Grubbs returns to The Dell Diamond this week, Round Rock Express Baseball announced Monday. A Bryan, Texas, native, Grubbs was Express Assistant General Manager during the organization's first eight seasons (2000-2007), and he was named Texas League Executive of the Year in 2004. He served as director of events for the University of Texas athletics department in the interim and assisted with operational matters pertaining to the launch of the Longhorn Network in 2011. Grubbs was the athletic department's liaison to IMG College in regard to implementation of sponsorship fulfillment and strategy.

"It is great to have Derrick Grubbs back with the Express," club owner and CEO Reid Ryan said. "Derrick brings a world of experience, spanning major league baseball to big-time college athletics, to our organization. I'm excited to hear Derrick's voice once again echo throughout The Dell Diamond."

Grubbs' professional baseball background is extensive, beginning as director of promotions for the Wichita Wranglers in 1991. The following season, he served as assistant general manager for the El Paso Diablos. Grubbs spent the 1993 and 1994 seasons with the Houston Astros as the club's marketing operations manager and public address announcer. He spent the 1995-1997 seasons with the New Orleans Zephyrs where he assisted with the opening of Zephyr Field and the subsequent franchise attendance record established in 1997.

From there, Grubbs moved to the Triple-A Charlotte Knights for 1998 and 1999 before joining Round Rock in 2000. He has served as a guest speaker at the Baseball Winter Meetings Freitas Seminar, the Minor League Baseball Promotional Seminar, the PBEO "Business of Baseball" workshop, and several collegiate sports management programs.

Grubbs is a 1981 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. He worked in the Texas A&M athletic department and the university's office of public affairs as an undergraduate.
